Sickness & Emergency

Sickness

Many of our students are medically fragile. Any students who are sick must not attend school. If a student becomes very unwell at school, it is expected that parents or the emergency contact person will come to school and take the child into their care.

Medical recommendations for students who experience either diarrhoea or vomiting from unknown causes are that they are excuded from school until there has been no diarrhoea or vomiting for 24 hours. SA Health recommendations for students who have experienced diarrhoea of unknown cases require that they do not access a public swimming pool for two weeks.

Emergency

First Aid is administered by a Senior First Aid Officer.  When a serious accident/incident occurs at school, or an ambulance is called, families will be contacted immediately.  The school must be notified of any changes to current phone numbers and emergency contact numbers. Teaching staff at Adelaide West Special Education Centre have a minimum current first aid qualification of Provide Basic Emergency Life Support (PBELS).
